What Does a Tahiti Vacation Cost?

People often ask me, "What does a Tahiti vacation cost?" They see photos of turquoise lagoons with overwater bungalows and often have no idea what to expect in terms of price when it comes to a Tahiti vacation or honeymoon. Yes, I can tell you, those Bora Bora overwater bungalows are pricey and we’ll get to those, but we’ll also give you prices on some more modest accommodations that are friendlier on the checkbook and tips on how to get the most for your money in Tahiti in any price range.

Tahiti Vacation Advice if You're on a Budget

#1 - Plan Ahead for Your Trip

Before we get to actual dollar figures, know that the farther advance you can plan your travels, the more likely you are to save money. Three things that are important to know:

  • The best airfares to Tahiti are booked 4-6 months in advance.

  • You can save 20%-40% on hotel rates if you book 90-150 days in advance.

  • Traveling to Tahiti during your summer vacation will add a premium of 10%-25% to your overall cost.

#2 - It Helps to be Flexible

The good news is that The Islands of Tahiti are so close to the equator, that there is very little change in weather throughout the year. You’re always looking at the mid-high 80’s so truly these islands are the perfect year round destination. So if you're on a budget and can take a vacation outside of the high season summer months, you'll certainly save money.

#3 - What Can Your Money Get You?

Starting at the lower end of the spectrum, expect to pay about $5,250 USD per couple for a 5-night stay at a resort on Bora Bora. This will put you in a Garden Room and include daily breakfast as well as an excursion. If you’re willing to skip Bora Bora and visit Moorea instead, you can get that price down to $4,000 USD per couple. One of the reasons Moorea is less expensive is because it’s a quick 30-minute ferry boat ride from Tahiti, as opposed to the 45-minute flight to Bora Bora. Believe me when I tell you, Moorea is a breathtakingly gorgeous island, as it happens to be my home.

#4 - Overwater Bungalows on a Budget

If you want to experience an Overwater Bungalow on Bora Bora or Moorea sample costs for that same 5-night stay:

Starting rates for 3-Star & 4-Star hotels and resorts:

  • Bora Bora, $6,300 USD per couple

  • Moorea, $5,100 per couple

For 5-Star resorts, the rate increases significantly:

  • Four Seasons Bora Bora: about $12,577 per couple

  • St. Regis Bora Bora: about $11,642 per couple

  • Conrad Bora Bora Nui: about $9,856 per couple

These rates can double for an Overwater Bungalow with a swimming pool. Keep in mind, there are still ways to enjoy a Bora Bora overwater bungalow even if a vacation cost of $10,000 and up isn't in your price range. One of the most popular ways of stretching the dollar in Tahiti is to enjoy a Garden Bungalow on Moorea and save the Overwater bungalow experience for Bora Bora. Also, adding a night to your itinerary might extend your stay for free. Some hotels have special Stay 3/Pay 2 offers. That means staying 6 nights will cost the same as 5 nights.
