Tikehau ~ The Pink Sand Island
(Tuamotu Islands)
Originally
named after a man Tii and a woman Hau, who combined their names
for their children, Tiehau became Tikehau meaning “peaceful
landing.” And is exactly what you feel when you arrive in
this sleepy paradise...
Tikehau has been blessed with beautiful pink sand beaches and
the air is filled with the fragrance of flowers and fruit trees.
For many people, Tikehau conjures up images of Robinson Crusoe.
This is truly the place to go if you want to escape. In Tikehau,
life revolves around the lagoon. All you need do is step outside
your bungalow to enjoy incredible snorkeling. In fact, Jacques Cousteau
said he had encountered more fish here than in any other part of
the South Pacific. If you want to explore a bit, we highly recommend
a picnic on one of the beautiful pink sand motus (islets) or a trip
to the Island of Birds.
