Manihi ~ The Island of Pearls
(Tuamotu Islands)
Upon
arriving in Manihi, you will feel as if you are far from civilization
and the stress of everyday life. One look at the shimmering blues
and greens of the lagoon and you’ll know you’ve arrived
in one of nature’s truly special places...
Peaceful and quiet, Manihi is a 75 minute flight from Tahiti and
is the birthplace of the Tahitian black pearl industry. Some have
referred to Manihi as “farm country” South Pacific style.
However, instead of crops, you’ll find several dozen farms
producing the famed Tahitian Pearl. The pristine lagoon of Manihi
provides the perfect environment for cultivating these extraordinary
gems and if you’re interested, we will be happy to arrange
for you, a guided tour through one of these pearl farms. Known also
for its fantastic scuba diving, snorkeling, and fishing, Manihi
calls to you to get in the water and explore. One of the most popular
excursions is a picnic on a secluded motu.
