Bora Bora ~ The Romantic Island
(Society Islands)
Emerged
from the ocean about 3 million years ago, Bora Bora means “first
born” in Tahitian and is known the world over as a South Seas
paradise, but the waters around Bora Bora are truly exceptional
even by Tahitian standards...
As you arrive by plane (45 minutes from Tahiti), you will get your
first glimpse of the breathtaking turquoise lagoon that surrounds
Bora Bora. Dominating the island are the majestic volcanic peaks
of Mount Otemanu and Mount Pahia. Often draped in white clouds,
these landmarks take on a mysterious quality that combined with
the brilliant turquoise lagoon, many consider Bora Bora to be the
most beautiful island in the world. In our opinion, the most beautiful
vantage point of Bora Bora is from one of the many motus that circle
the island.
In Bora Bora, you have plenty of different ways to enjoy the spectacular
lagoon. From outrigger canoe and paddleboat to snorkeling, sailing,
windsurfing, jetskiing and/or parasailing. Bora Bora also happens
to be home to the large manta ray, making this a very popular destination
with divers. Unlike some larger islands, which require several days
to tour, Bora Bora is just 20 miles around and can be easily traversed
within a day. Bora Bora is also a good choice for land activities
such as biking, hiking and horseback riding. No matter how you choose
to spend your time in Bora Bora, you will find it to be an enchanting
island of dramatic beauty that will leave you with many cherished
memories.
