upon a motu. As such the hotel like to boast that they have the
very best view of Mt. Otemanu! The Bora Bora Lagoon Resort is directly
across from the main village of Vaitape. This resort exemplifies
the old world charm of Polynesia. There are a total of 79 bungalows
– 50 Overwater and 29 Garden or Beach Bunglaows. The garden
here is really stunning and each plant has itslatin name noted.
Some of the bungalows here have private swimming pools while the
Overwater Bungalows have illuminated glass-top coffee tables allowing
you a private view of the sealife below. The resort has a large
pool, two tennis courts and a beautiful Maru Spa built up in the

It provides an unforgetable setting for a truly relaxubg visit to
Bora Bora. Le Moana has a total of 68 bungalows of which 16 are

Four of the bungalows are suites. You will also find an infinity

Moana is quickly becoming a classic.
Le Meridien Bora Bora
The resort has one of the largest and best beaches around. It is
situated on Motu Tupe across from the village of Anau and provides
stunning views of Mt. Otemanu and also of Raiatea.. There are a
total 99 bungalows at Le Meridien – 82 Overwater and 17 Beach
Bungalows. The hotel has successfully blended French modernism with
Tahitian style. Instead of offering the typical glass-top coffee
tables in the overwater bungalows, Le Meridien has built large glass
floors. One very special feature of Le Meridien is its turtle sanctuary.
Within the center of the resort lies a lagoon within the lagoon.
While the number varies, you will typically find over 50 turtles
within the lagoon. The resort is involved in the protection of these
fantastic creatures and releases them after 3 years when the risk
of predators killing them off is greatly reduced. The really wonderful
feature about this sanctuary is that you can get right in the lagoon
and swim with the turtles! In addition the hotel has a swimming
pool and while they do not have an actual spa, they have converted
one of the Overwater Bungalows into a massage room. You may also
receive a massage in the privacy of your own bungalow.
Hotel Bora Bora
The Hotel Bora Bora was the first luxury resort to be built in French
Polynesia. Situated on Point Raititi, it has played host to many
celebrities. The hotel boasts a lush tropical garden with hundreds
of tropical birds and an equal variety of plants & trees. There
are 15 Overwater Bungalows, 12 Pool Fares (garden villas with private
pools) and 5 Beach Fares featuring living rooms and large sundecks
and 16 Beach Bungalows with spacious bedrooms and sitting areas.
The hotel has two lit tennis courts and some of the best snorkeling
on the island.
Sofitel Motu Bora Bora
Just 4-minutes from Maitra Point, the Sofitel Motu is a world unto
itself. Nearly half the island is a tropical bird sanctuary and
it is surrounded by beautiful coral gardens. The Sofitel Motu has
a total of 30 bungalows –20 Ovewater and 10 Land with three
separate coves for guests to enjoy the beach. Guests at the Sofitel
Motu may also enjoy the amenities and the swimming pool at its sister
property the Sofitel Bora Bora Beach Resort. In order to preserve
the quiet exclusivity of the Motu, guests staying at the Beach Resort
are only allowed to access the Motu for dinner and that is on a
reservation basis only.
Sofitel Bora Bora Beach Resort
The Sofitel Bora Bora Beach Resort has an interesting history. It
was originally built by Dino De Laurentiis to house the cast and
crew of his film "Hurricane." Now operated by Sofitel,
the hotel has recently undergone major renovations and looks great.
It is one of the few moderately priced properties in Bora Bora and
I think it is now the best looking of the three. The Sofitel Bora
Bora feels a bit like a Tahitian village with 64 traditional-style
bungalows including 24 Overwater, 11 Beach and 29 Garden Bungalows.
Novotel Bora Bora Beach Resort
The Novotel is one of three moderately priced properties in Bora
Bora and is different from the other hotels in that they do not
have bungalows — just garden rooms and all are located in
three separate 2-story buildings on the mountain-side of the island.
The rooms are nicely sized and well appointed. The reception, restaurant,
pool and bar are all located across the street on a lovely beach.
They have used their prime beachfront property for the common spaces.
At night the hotel provides a variety of entertainment for their
guests. Everything from local musicians and dancers to pareo or
coconut shows. The hotel has a nice pool and also has Nemo World
– the on-site dive center. The Novotel Bora Bora offers great
value in a convenient location.
Le Maitai Polynesia Bora Bora
Located on Matira Point between the InterContinental Le Moana Resort
and the Sofitel Marara, Le Maitai is the last of the three moderately
priced hotels in Bora Bora. There are a total of 28 Garden Rooms,
20 Ocean Rooms, 7 Beach Bungalows and 19 Overwater Bungalows. While
the Garden Rooms are rather claustrophobic, the Ocean view rooms
do provide a lovely view of the lagoon and the neighboring islands
of Raiatea and Tahaa in the distance. The Beach & Overwater
Bungalows are rather close together but a bargain compared to most
hotels on the island. One important note is that the bungalows do
not have air conditioning.
Hotel Matira
Also in the moderate price range is the Hotel Matira. Located just
down the road from the Hotel Bora Bora and next door to the InterContinental
Le Moana, there are a total of 14 bungalows – 2 Beach Bungalows,
4 Lagoon View and 8 Garden Bungalows. The interiors of the bungalows
are made of beautiful exotic wood and decorated with crisp white
bedcovers. Note: The one odd thing about this
hotel is the lack of reception/restaurant/bar. There is a restaurant,
however it is down the street (a 3-5 minute walk) from the bungalows.
In addition, there is no air conditioning in these bungalows. However
there are ceiling fans and mosquito nets. This is an ideal place
for those wanting a moderately priced hotel and/or those not wanting
a “hotel atmosphere."
